How to feel more confident during your boudoir photo session
Choose a photographer that you trust.
While I know cost is a big issue for most people, please do not book your photographer just because of how much they cost. Boudoir photography is a luxury service and you want to choose a photographer that makes you feel comfortable and one that you trust. You do not want to take your clothing off in front of some creep. When choosing your photographer, choose someone with lots of experience and lots of online client submitted reviews. Pick someone that you resonate with. Choose someone who offer some type of consultation, whether it is on the phone or in person. They should also have an open-door policy so you can come to the studio prior to your session, see the studio and meet them also. Bottom line is if you are not 100% comfortable with the photographer that you have chosen, it will show in your photos. While most studios do not allow clients to bring a friend along with them to their photo session, my studio DOES allow this. In my mind everything is more fun with a friend. And if bringing along a friend makes you feel more relaxed, I welcome it.
Read about others experiences.
Search your photographer in google. Google allows people to give open and honest reviews of your services. Ask your friends for referrals. Girls talk, and love to talk about things they loved and things they don’t love. For example, today my kids and I went out to a new restaurant for lunch. We did not like the food or the service. Can you guess what I did next, I came home and jumped on Facebook and told everyone I know how much we did not like it!
Try on your clothing before your session and make sure it fits you correctly. There is nothing that can ruin your session quicker than clothing that does not fit you correctly. You want your wardrobe to compliment your body. Also make sure that you clothing is wrinkle free. If you have questions about wardrobe, contact your photographer and ask questions. A great photographer is going to want to walk you through the process and answer any questions you may have. Wardrobe is a major key to having amazing photos.
Get comfortable with your body.
This whole process is easier if you practice being comfortable with your body. Practice being naked or wearing little clothing – comfort with our body takes practice. Get familiar with your body, paying particular attention to the parts you love. Walk around your home naked or partially clothed. Appreciate and admire your body from all angles. Focus on the good stuff. I know this sound weird, but it will help make you more comfortable being partially clothed during your shoot.
Most photographers will provide you with some sort of do’s and don’t list for preparing for your session. Take time to read and follow directions when possible.
