Chicago Boudoir Photography | Tips & Advice from Janet Lynn

When you are looking to hire the best Chicago boudoir photographer, you’ll normally take to referrals from friends, but that only takes you so far. You’ll want to know some of the best tips to follow to truly get the most out of your boudoir session. And naturally, that’s why I wanted to write an article to help you get the absolute most out of your Chicago boudoir photography session.

Truly, there are so many different paths you can go with your session. There’s the route of the in-home session, booking a high-end hotel or Air B&B, or coming to a professional photo studio where you can select from a variety of backdrops, props, and all the other fun things that can really bring the most out of your experience. Personally, I prefer the latter, and that’s what I use for the high majority of my boudoir and pinup clients. After all, it’s all about helping you feel completely at ease and giving you the best experience possible from start to finish.

Most of all, it’s about giving you a truly comfortable environment and making you feel truly empowered in the skin you’re in.

As you’ll notice throughout my Chicago boudoir photography portfolio (as well as everywhere else on my website), that’s what I am all about. And for every body, every age, and all sorts of personalities. That’s what makes all of this so FUN and it’s why I love being a Chicago boudoir photographer so much.

Here are a few tips to get you started to make the right decision.

There are many things to do before your Chicago boudoir photography session even begins.

And that’s why it’s so important to have the right photographer by your side. It’s not just about that initial feeling about “oh that’s a pretty photo” when you come across a new photo on Instagram. It’s way more than that, in reality.

Pick out your lingerie outfits & think about some basic props.

Make sure to chat with your photographer (like me), about all these sorts of things. Because outfits, types of fabrics, and colors all will give off a different aesthetic to the end result of your photos. Do you want to go completely Agent Provocateur or do you want to go more JC Penny? You get the idea.

As for props, keep them to a minimum. I say this because when it comes to creating something beautiful, less usually equals more.  And with fewer props, it’s more a focus on you. That said, I will still absolutely guide you through what I recommend to help you get that desired gorgeous look.

Wear loose-fitting clothing when you arrive at the boudoir session.

I say this because you don’t want any bra or pant-impression lines on your body during the photo session. So, make sure to arrive wearing loose-fitting clothing so there’s none of those awkward lines anywhere. Nobody wants that, haha.

Don’t get a spray tan.

Even though it might look nice for your vacation, in photos, you can normally (and easily) tell a bad spray tan. And especially if it’s a recent spray tan, it may rub off on white lingerie, white sheets, and nobody wants that (haha). There are ways to give you a slight tan right here within my photo editing software, so I have your back. You can put your trust in me.

That said, if you really want to tan beforehand, hit the tanning booth or get a real tan from UV rays. Just watch out from getting burned. A sunburn is just as bad (if not worse) than a bad spray tan. Haha.

Do your research when looking for the best Chicago boudoir photographers.

And if you haven’t booked your Chicago boudoir photography session yet, make sure to do that research. After all, you want the best photographer by your side and throughout the journey. And when you hire me, I promise you that I’m giving you my all.

I’ve been a boudoir photographer for many years now, and I am an open book about anything and everything.

How to make the most out of your Chicago boudoir photography session:

Below, I’m going to share with you some tips to help you get brilliantly clear clarity so you know exactly what to look for.

Feeling comfortable during your boudoir session.

First, you absolutely must hire the right boudoir photographer to help you feel most at ease and in your natural element. If you’re nervous or uncomfortable, it will show in the photos. But not to worry, that’s why I’m there by your side throughout the entire session (and prior to it) to guide you through everything.

And my personal approach to it all is really finding that perfect blend of being professional as well as just super laid back – cracking jokes and all that FUN times that the shoot should really be about! It will feel like we’re the best of friends the entire time.

Being a part of the process.

From the moment you reach out, planning for the session, and the session itself – we will be working together to create the sexy, beautiful, and emotive images that you’ve always been dreaming about – whether they are created just for you to look back on and feel super proud about, or to share with a significant other as a special little gift. A gift that will always be remembered. A gift that will always be cherished.

With truly pro-level communication from a Chicago boudoir photographer who has many years of experience, you’re in good hands with me. I promise.

Hire a Chicago boudoir photographer who can help you with all those beautiful poses.

With every unique body type, there are unique poses that go along with each body type to appear as flattering as possible. And that’s why I love to specialize as an “everyBODY” boudoir & pinup photographer in both Illinois and Indiana. Nobody should feel left out. And that’s exactly why I am here creating beautiful images of beautiful people.

The thing that I just need more than anything else to make all of this happen seamlessly is your trust. With that, everything will be gorgeous.

Ease yourself into the boudoir session.

With every session, I start out with the poses and ideas that are quite honestly just more simple. That way, you’ll ease yourself into the session and get warmed up in front of the camera. Again, it’s all about making you as comfortable as possible throughout the entire experience. And yes, I may crack a few jokes or two (or ten, let’s be real).

Have fun with your photographer!

Booking your boudoir session should be fun! If you’re not having fun, then why do it, right? Yes, we will create and capture beautiful, intimate photos together – but let’s have FUN while doing it all! That’s what matters.
