Empowering Boudoir Photography

Why I offer Emopowering Boudoir Photography at My Indiana Boudoir Studio

This quote by Wallis Simpson really sums the intention of this is post about body image and  how the experiences that we have in life can effect how we feel about our bodies and how we look.

“A woman’s life can really be a succession of lives, each revolving around some emotionally compelling situation or challenge, and each marked off by some intense experience.”

I want give you a quick personal example. When I was a child in grade school, I had glasses, braces and an Annie perm and wore head gear.  And as I am sure you know kids can cruel. I was picked on almost every day.  This hurt me very deeply, because all I wanted to do was fit in. I had the most amazing life and parents, but got picked on in school. This experience made me really lack self-confidence (even though my home life was AMAZING) . And this lack of self confidence followed me into adulthood. It was not till I was older, married, had children and made true friends that I gained a lot of self confidence.

Did you know that throughout a woman’s life there are critical moments that will ultimately shape the way she will see her body as an adult. As children we focus on what our bodies can do and how they feel and how they interact with the world around us.  As teenagers, puberty becomes a huge source of embarrassment for most people, especially a girl who may hit puberty before her peers.  This is also an age when girls really start to care about how they look and how they may differ from the woman they see in the media. They do not realize that all girls and their bodies are different and the image that is showed in the media is very unrealistic.  They also pick up a lot of things from  their mom at home. If mom is not confident and is extremely over critical on herself or her body, her daughter WILL pickup on it. If mom is always on a diet, her daughter may always be obsessed with her weight. This can lead to an eating disorder and a serious lack of self image ! As moms we have show our daughters that we should love ourselves for who we are, and that we are good enough !

Here are a few frightening  statistics about eating disorders in girls !

  • Anorexia is the 3rd most common chronic illness in adolescents.
  • 95 percent of those with eating disorders are between 12 and 25 year of age
  • The mortality rate associated with anorexia is 12 times higher than the death rate associated with all other causes of death for girls aged 15-24

In a womans 20’s and 30’s a woman is faced with the challenge of finding a partner and the impossible beauty ideals that is put forth by the media. Like I said before, this is also the same for the teenage genre. Woman of this age also must face the changes that their body may go through during a pregnancy.  Most woman are ashamed of those scars, stretch marks and cellulite that our little angels may give us.  Personally I like to think of it a bit differently.  Woman’s bodies are amazing things !  We can grow a human being , to me that is spectacular !  I think everyone woman should own a shirt that says: I can grow a human being, what’s your super power?  I think woman should think of these scars as battle scars and be damn proud of them.  I have a very large c- section scar on my abdomen. And it is not one of the bikini cuts either. It is an old fashion right down the middle of my abdomen cut, and it is not pretty.  The more weight I gained, the more it my stomach curved around the scar. My kids calls it my front butt !!!! But ya know what, I don’t mind, cause that is wear both of these amazing boys came from.

In a woman’s 40’s and 50’s she must deal with entering menopause, and her maturing looks. You know what I mean, gray hairs and wrinkles. But usually by this age woman start to embrace and accept how they look. I ask you why must we wait till this late in life to accept how we look ?  I personally find this sad that we don’t accept ourselves till this late in life.

What if I told you there was a way to help you can accept and love yourself. Well there is, it is called boudoir photography. When most woman 1st hear about it they instantly gasp and say no, I could never do such a thing !  I never believe a woman when she says that, cause deep down I think all woman want to  be photographed in a sexy way. They just say that so they are not judged by other people.   In my boudoir studio, the photos that I take are designed to make woman love and accept themselves and to make them know they are good enough just the way they are. My boudoir studio in Northwest Indiana is a safe environment for you to express your sensuality in a way that makes you feel amazing confident and empowered !
